M PEOPLE are to headline the Southport Summer Classics....

M People have been announced as the Friday headline act for this year's Southport Summer Classics - Music In The Park.

Carolyn Lowry, from Sefton's Events Team, said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome M People to Southport to take part in this fantastic outdoor performance.

"The Summer Classics - Music In The Park is always a very popular event, so we are really pleased to have attracted this big-name band who we are working closely with to bring to Southport for the Classics.

"Heather Small has such an amazing and distinctive voice and with their upbeat classic hits, I'm hoping this will be a evening of music to remember!"

M People released nine albums, including 'Bizarre Fruit', 'Elegant Slumming' and a 'Best Of' album. In 1994 and 1995 M People won Brit Awards for Best British Dance Act, the latter as a result of the release of Bizarre Fruit. At the Brit Awards in 1995 they collaborated with Sting on his track 'If You Love Somebody.
